The ones popular in good old Oz.

1. Devon:
adj. Nothing to do with smallgoods! If something bad happens "it was devon". Can be reduced to dev.

2. Bent:
adj. As in warped. A skewed impression of reality. "That guy is totally bent".

3. Maggoted:
adj. To be extremely intoxicated. "Dave's an idiot, he got totally maggoted last night". (Ok so we're being optimistic).

4. Munter:
adj. (originally from monster) An aesthetically challenged individual. In other words, an ugly bloke.

5. Chillax:
v. (combination of the words "chill" and "relax") To calm down. "Mate, just chillax, don't be so paranoid ".

The ironic, the rhyming, the surprisingly deep.

1. Funky:
adj. Smelly, gross, displeasing to the senses. "That yoghurt is smelling a bit funky".

2. Dapadan:
n. The leader, the man.

3. Rasta:
n. As in Rastafarian. Non-complying, independent types (who wear dreadlocks under their large yellow, green and red hats - just like every other Rasta!)

4. Freak:
n. 1. an amazing athlete. 2. a very good looking person. A "hottie". 3. an expert who is knowledgable or obsessive about a specific subject. "Hannah's a Spice Girls freak!".

5. Scam:
v. To get freebies or discounts - a key ambition of Generation Y! "That careers expo was so cool, we scammed so much free stuff".

The ones used in fun and in jest.

1. Bananas:
adj. 1. Hot, cute, adorable or cool. "That guy is bananas".

2. Clownin:
v. To make fun of someone. To joke around. "Mate, don't be clownin with me!".

3. Nah-uh!:

interj. 1. An exclamation of resistance. "Pick up the garbage?" "Nah-uh, not me!". 2. Expression of amazement or awe. "Matto won $1000? Nah-uh!"

4. Phat:
adj/adv. (pronounced "fat"). Very good, cool, top notch. "Dude you're phat!". Also used as an acronym: Pretty Hot And Tempting.

5. Ya mum:
A comeback used in general conversation. Often used in a comical, rather than offensive way. Baz: "You're the one who got us lost!", Shaz: "Ya mum!".

1. Bling/Bling-Bling:
Onomatopoeic term for jewellery, "Check out John's bling!"

2. Diss:
v. (derived from Disrespect or Dismiss) To disrespect, insult, or dismiss.. "Don't diss it before you try it".

3. Emo:
n. An emotional person or a descriptor of someone into emo (emotional) music.

4. Foo:
n. (derived from Fool). 1. A friend. "Sup foo?". 2. An insulting name for someone. "What you looking at foo?"

5. Indie:
adj. (derived from Independent). Originally limited to "indie" bands but now can describe anything anti-commercial and anti-establishment - or at least pretending to be!
